Please keep the following in mind:

• Previously published submissions are accepted. Please let us know where your work has appeared before so that we can credit it accordingly.
• Simultaneous submissions/pitches are encouraged. Please let us know as soon as possible if a piece or manuscript is no longer available for consideration.
• Please familiarise yourself with our ABOUT page before submitting.
• We reserve the right to remove, withdraw, or discontinue any work in the future in case a writer is found to be expressing or holding bigoted or discriminatory views, or has acted in such a manner.
• Please include an author bio alongside your submission. An author photo is optional.

Guest edited folios

VIBE is currently hosting a collection of guest edited folios. Each guest edited folio has a different set of prompts and guidelines, as follows:

This folio will have a short print run if there are sufficient funds available, in which case any profits will be distributed among the contributors, the editor, and VIBE.

Submission Guidelines

• Poetry: Please send 1-3 poems on the subject of names and naming.
• Creative Nonfiction: We are looking for short essays or reflections of around 500 words about names — it could be your own name, the name of a place, the name of a work of art etc. Please submit one brief 1-paragraph essay pitch or one completed essay.
• Visual Poems and Artwork: Please send 1-3 pieces on the subject of names and naming, and if relevant a brief written description of how the piece(s) relate to the theme of Names.

Prompts

NAMES is a folio exploring the things we call ourselves and each other. Names can apply to people, to places, to works of art or even to events. The naming of a person or place often ties them to a culture, a political context and a language. Names are not only a way to refer to each other but markers of identity, history as well as legacies of power and powerlessness. This folio is interested in the meanings behind names, new and chosen names, things with no names and things with many names. Your pieces might explore how you or someone else got their name, how you feel about the name of a place, how you chose a name for something, how the names of people and places intertwine, how things lose their names, how the name of something affected you or how we collectively decided on new names. Feel free to be creative and pitch anything you come up with! This folio is curated by Hua Xi who also teaches workshops with the Spatial Poetry Project.
